About Mike Phillips
I started my career as an electronics engineer with one of the leading communications research companies in the world. It was an exciting time, at the transition to digital telecoms, I was able to work on some of the leading technologies of the day. However by my mid-twenties I knew I was only ever going to be an average engineer and I wanted a career with greater challenges and the opportunity to excel.
For some reason that I still cannot explain today, I made the transition into sales! I was wise enough to remain within the electronics industry and joined a multi-national components manufacturer to gain my first experience of sales. By working with some very experienced salesmen I was taught the art and science of selling. During my time in electronics distribution I had the opportunity to work with a number of SME’s, experience which would prove invaluable later in my career.
I developed my skills and experience by joining the UK communications sales team of the then world’s #1 semiconductor and wireless comms corporation. This was the start of a long and fruitful 25 years in a multi-billion dollar corporation which was constantly on the leading edge of some of the most exciting technologies but also valued the development of its people. My career moved rapidly from UK Sales to European Marketing and eventually global marketing, business development and strategy! This meant selling the family home in Milton Keynes and moving my wife and three young daughters to Geneva, and a job in European headquarters.
Trust me; there are few better places in the world to live than surrounded by the lakes and mountains of Switzerland! But after three years, it was time to return to England and another 15 years of international travel......sometimes my wife thought I had a second home at Heathrow Airport! Twenty-three years in any industry is long enough, so I started to look around for an alternative career that would enable me to use my business knowledge along with my experience of marketing, sales and strategy development. I wanted a life outside of multi-national corporate politics, running my own company, and a greatly improved work-life balance. It took me almost two years to find the perfect opportunity with Ology Business Coaching. This is my opportunity to use my experience to help businesses in Milton Keynes, North Bucks and Northampton, with a focus on addressing the two fundamental issues of any successful business........People and Processes.
