Wherever you are in the world, and whatever business you are in, many of the issues you encounter are the same! Having experienced a diverse range of working environments and cultures my understanding of the frustrations within business has developed – and I want to use that knowledge to benefit you.
Having served for over 13 years in the British Army, I joined British Airways in 1986. Initially based at Heathrow, I moved to Lagos, Africa with responsibility for all their airports in the region. Later moves to Istanbul and then Johannesburg saw increased responsibilities for sales, marketing and network development.
In 2000, I left British Airways to join Jersey European Airways, establishing an office to support its fast growing operations in Birmingham. After 4 years, the company evolved into the low fares airline Flybe, now the UK’s largest regional airline. During my time in Birmingham, I managed the Birmingham City sponsorship account and was appointed President of Solihull Chamber of Commerce. However, in keeping with the low cost trend of centralisation of resource, I realised there was a limited long term future in Birmingham and seized the opportunity to join fast growing Qatar Airways.
After a year in the Head Office in Doha developing and implementing a strategy of growth for Qatar Airways, I moved to Nairobi in October 2005, where I supervised the opening of 8 new routes for the airline into the Continent.
In later years I found myself becoming increasingly frustrated with the internal politics and energy-sapping bureaucracy often found in larger organisations and decided that the only way to control my own destiny was to run my own business.
What Drives Me?
I get real satisfaction from helping people succeed; knowing that I have made a contribution along the way is hugely rewarding. As a business owner I want to help others achieve their own goals and aspirations which are often very similar to my own. We all strive to have more time to do the things we enjoy, to realise a level of income that recognises our efforts, and to ensure that we retire when we want to without worrying about the finances.
We all could benefit from self-improvement: remember you don’t have to be sick to get better!
